How to change the memory allocation in DELL PC/LAPTOP
The
memory allocation of your Dell computer sets the parameters for the
amount of hard drive space or virtual memory an application can reserve
for its processes. Use the native tools in the Windows operating system
to adjust the allocation of memory in your computer. Unlike other
operating systems, for Windows-based computers you cannot specifically
set how much space a specific program uses. But you can change the
allocation to favor programs or system cache files. Exercise caution
when adjusting virtual memory allocations as the settings can affect
every software program on your computer.
Step 1
Right-click the "Computer" icon and click "Properties."
Step 2
Click the "Advanced" tab in the "System Properties" window that appears,
and click the "Settings" button under the "Performance" section.
Step 3
Click the "Advanced" tab in the "Performance Options" window that
appears. Click the "Programs" or "System Cache" button under the "Memory
Usage" category to change the memory allocation for your Dell.
Tips
- Click the "Change" button under the "Virtual Memory" section to set aside more space on your hard drive for virtual memory. Use the settings in the "Recommended" field to achieve the best performance for your operating system without compromising other files on the hard drive.
